ClutterBuddy Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 14, 2026

The short version: Your data stays on your device by default. If you choose to enable cloud sync, your inventory can be backed up to your private Google Drive folder (Android) or iCloud container (iOS). We obtain your consent before collecting any advertising data, and we don't run analytics or collect personal data beyond what's needed for optional cloud sync and ads.

Data Storage

All data you create in ClutterBuddy — including locations, boxes, items, notes, tags, and photos — is stored locally on your device by default.

If you choose to enable cloud sync, your inventory data and photos are also stored in your personal cloud account:

  • Android: Your personal Google Drive account (in the App's private application data folder).
  • iOS: Your iCloud account (in a private, app-specific container).

This data is only accessible to you and to ClutterBuddy — it is not visible to other apps or users.

Cloud Sync

Google Sign-In and Google Drive (Android)

ClutterBuddy offers an optional Google Sign-In feature on Android. If you choose to sign in with Google:

  • We receive your email address, display name, and profile photo URL from Google to identify your account within the App.
  • We request access to the Google Drive Application Data folder (drive.appdata scope). This is a private, app-specific folder in your Google Drive that is not visible in your normal Drive files.
  • Your inventory data (locations, boxes, items, and associated photos) may be synced to this folder for backup and cross-device access.
  • Sync can occur in the background when your device has network connectivity.
  • You can sign out at any time from the Settings screen, which stops all cloud sync activity. Your data remains on Google Drive until you manually delete it.

We do not access any other files in your Google Drive, and we do not share your Google account information with third parties.

iCloud Sync (iOS)

On iOS, ClutterBuddy can optionally sync your data using iCloud. iCloud sync uses your device's existing Apple ID — no additional sign-in is required. Your inventory data and photos are stored in a private iCloud container accessible only to ClutterBuddy. You can disable iCloud sync at any time from the Settings screen.

Local Backup and Restore

The App allows you to export your inventory data as a local JSON backup file and import it back. These files remain entirely on your device and are not transmitted to any server unless you choose to share them manually.

Information You Provide

  • Inventory data (locations, boxes, items, notes, tags) — stored locally and optionally synced to Google Drive
  • Photos attached to boxes and items — stored locally and optionally synced to Google Drive
  • Google account information (email, display name, profile photo) — only if you sign in with Google

Information Collected Automatically

Advertising data: The App uses Google Mobile Ads to display banner advertisements. Google's ad SDK may collect device identifiers, advertising IDs, and usage data in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. The App declares the AD_ID permission for this purpose. No advertising data is collected until you have completed the consent flow (see "Ad Consent and Your Choices" below).

Network state: The App checks your network connectivity status (Wi-Fi vs. cellular) to determine when to perform background sync. This information is not stored or transmitted.

Information We Do Not Collect

Location or GPS data
Usage analytics or telemetry
Crash reports
Contacts or call logs

Photos

When you attach a photo to a box or item, the image is processed (resized for thumbnails and detail views) and saved to the App's private storage on your device. If you take a new photo using the in-app camera, a copy may also be saved to your device's photo gallery.

If Google Drive sync is enabled, photos are uploaded to your private Google Drive application data folder. Photos are not shared with any other external service.

Camera

The App uses your device camera to:

  • Take photos of boxes and items
  • Scan QR codes to identify boxes

Camera access requires your explicit permission and can be revoked at any time through your device settings.

NFC

The App can read and write NFC tags to link physical stickers to your boxes. NFC data is processed entirely on your device and is not transmitted to any server.

Advertisements

ClutterBuddy displays banner ads powered by Google Mobile Ads (AdMob). Google may use cookies, device identifiers, and advertising IDs to serve and measure ads. For more information, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Ad Consent and Your Choices

ClutterBuddy obtains your consent before collecting any advertising data. The App delays all ad-related data collection until you have completed the consent flow.

  • Google User Messaging Platform (UMP): If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or a regulated US state, a consent form is displayed when you first open the App. This form allows you to choose whether to allow personalized advertisements or to receive non-personalized ads only.
  • App Tracking Transparency (iOS only): On iOS, the App requests your permission via Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework before allowing cross-app tracking for ad personalization. You will see an in-app explanation followed by the system prompt. If you decline, you will still see ads — they just won't be personalized.

Based on your choices, ads are served as either personalized or non-personalized. The App works the same regardless of your selection.

Managing Your Preferences

  • GDPR regions: You can change your ad preferences at any time from Settings > Manage Ad Preferences, which reopens the Google consent form.
  • iOS tracking: You can change your tracking permission at any time in your device's Settings.

Background Sync

If you have cloud sync enabled (Google Drive on Android or iCloud on iOS), the App may periodically sync your data in the background. You can disable this behavior in the App's Settings. Background sync only occurs when network connectivity is available. You can also configure sync to occur only over Wi-Fi.

Data Retention and Deletion

  • Local data: You can delete any inventory data at any time within the App. Uninstalling the App removes all local data.
  • Google Drive data: If you use cloud sync on Android, your data is stored in Google Drive until you delete it. You can remove synced data by signing out and revoking the App's access in your Google Account permissions.
  • iCloud data: If you use iCloud sync on iOS, your data is stored in iCloud until you delete it through the App or your iCloud settings.
  • Ad-related data: Data collected by Google's ad SDK is governed by Google's data retention policies. You can manage your ad personalization preferences at any time from the App's Settings.

Children's Privacy

ClutterBuddy does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The App displays advertisements served by Google AdMob, which may collect device information as described in this policy. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through the App, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
